Ballet & Pointe
This is the foundation of all other forms of dance. Emphasis is on proper training in technique and terminology, and to improve the dancers grace, strength, and flexibility. Proper attire: Black leotard and pink tights, soft, pink ballet shoes.
Pointe class is only by teacher recommendation and students are required to take the hour long Intensive Ballet class. Pink toed shoes are required.
Tap
Students learn basic steps and rhythms. Students will build a strong sense of rhythm and timing, as well as coordination and balance. Black tap shoes are required. No long pants should be worn as this can interfere with the heel tap sounds.
Jazz
Techniques and movements are more free form and stylized. Faster, more contemporary music is used, and the dancer is introduced to different styles of movement. Learning to isolate different parts of the body is an important aspect. Leotard or t-shirts, jazz pants or shorts and black jazz shoes or jazz sneakers are required.
Hip Hop
Perfect for those who love to groove to the current hits, and learn age-appropriate fun and funky moves! The emphasis is on attitude, stage presence, developing an individual style, learning to loosen the body, and having fun! Clean gym shoes that are not worn outside can be used or black jazz sneakers.
Modern/Lyrical
The development of abstract movements, using shapes, timing and levels. Incorporates aspects of ballet and jazz in a more free form style. Dancers learn to display emotion and tell a story through the music. The dances are performed with bare feet. Attire should be a leotard or t-shirt over jazz pants, Capris or shorts.
Mixed Discipline Classes
DFMPAC has introduced these classes as a way to save you time, money, and give your student a chance to experience all the different types of dance! The dancers usually perform one dance per discipline in the June show, and as a result a costume will need to be purchased for each dance. Proper attire and shoes required for each discipline.
3 & 4yrs. and 5 & 6yrs. Combo Classes
Designed to introduce ballet, tap and tumbling to the young dancer through music, games and creative movements. All children must be able to take care of their own bathroom needs.
Musical Theatre
